On September 19, 1827, a struggle broke out on the Mississippi River sandbar. What began as a proper duel amongst two notable Louisiana family members ended in a skirmish through which Jim Bowie, originally just a supporter on the sidelines, was shot and stabbed in advance of drawing out a large knife and killing a person named Norris Wright.Tradit
